The area was included to Natura 2000 network because of spotted ground squirrel occurrence. The species makes here one of not numerous warren. During the inventory in 1999 the size of this population was estimated to 100 individuals. Popowka is the Site of Community Importance. The refuge is situated in southern-east end of Wieszchowina Grabowiecka. This is one of the most uplifted place on Lubelska upland. The best way to get to Popowka reserve is to go by main road, which runs from Zamosc to Hrubieszow city, then you have to turn left in Miaczyn place in Grabowiec direction. more »
