Pastwiska nad Huczwa refuge was founded in a place of one of not numerous spotted ground squirrel warren. This species is on the Appendix II of Habitat Directive. During the inventory in 1999 the size of this population was estimated to2000 individuals. Pastwiska nad Huczwa are the Site of Community Importance. The refuge is located in southern-west part of Hrubieszowska valley, which sets in Zachodnio-Wolynska upland, in upstream of Huczwa river.
