The refuge encompasses picturesque Warta river valley with few gorges, cutting in the lime plate of Wielunska Upland. There are many karst structures: outliers, wind-made forms and caves. Habitats are very diverse here: from thermophilic lime rock grasslands through beech, alluvial and oak-hornbeam forests to alkaline fens in the valley of the river and oxbow lake. Zaleczanski Luk Warty is a Site of Community Importance. The refuge is located in the centre of Krakowsko-Wielunska Upland, in slaskie voivodeship. It encompasses 40-kilometer part of Warta valley, between Lisowice and Kochlew places. It contains the area of 9055.2 ha. Warta river makes characteristic meander here. more »
You can get to the refuge from few different directions: from Wilun, Dzialoszka, Praszka and Krzepice. The area can be sighseeing on foot or by bicycle - using few touristic trails - and also by conoe. more »

The area of Krakowsko-Czestochowska Upland because of its landscape was appreciated many times in history as a good defensive place. There was made a network of 29 casles supported by 10 watchtowers in 14th century.
