Some advice
How to get to Bialowieza Primeval Forest?
Puszcza Białowieska - the map
The Primeval Forest of Bialowieza is located near the Polish border with Belarus. If you want to go to Bialowieza, you must head for Hajnowka, where the "forest tunnel" road begins.

How to get there by car

  •  From Bialystok: you must head for Zabludow, Trzescianka, Narew, Nowosady, Hajnowka
  •  From Warsaw: take the road through Ostrow Mazowiecki and Bielsk Podlaski
  •  If you are heading from the south-west of Poland: it is best to head for Radzyn Podlaski, Miedzyrzec Podlaski, Siemiatycze, Kleszczele

If you want to get there by train or by bus

The Railway heading directly for Bialowieza is closed for many years. Trains go only as far as Hajnowka. From there the best option is to take the bus which, after half an hour of driving, will take you to Bialowieza. You can observe beautifull forests on both sides of the road and this road is only a foretaste of a adventure in the Primeval Forest of Bialowieza.

If you want to go to Bialowieza by train from any place in the country, you must head for Siedlce or Bialystok.

  • From Siedlce you can head directly for Hajnowka, or change trains in Czeremcha
  • From Bialystok you will travel to Czeremcha and then too you will have to change trains

Bialowieza primeval forest offers many touristic highlights. There are some interesting trails where you can observe wild nature:

  • Green trail “wilczy szlak - wolf’s trail” – leads from Zamosz, through Masiewo to the Protected Zone of Hwozna. While walking along this trail you can admire natural swamp coniferous forest, a very large erratic stone, heritage park of  the narrow-gauge railway and many other interesting places. Part of this trail is also available as a cycling route.
  • Red trail “Szlak wokol Uroczyska Gluszec - Route around the Głuszec Range ”  it leads from Masiewo to the former refuge of wood grouse (Tetrao urogallus). Along the 5,5 km of this trail you can observe the natural beauty of the primeval forest.
  • Black trail “Carska Tropina – Tsar Trace” – it will lead you along the valley of Narewka river. One of the most interesting places along this trail is a view tower perfect for watching birds and mammals of the Białowieża Forest.
