Ostoja Poleska is a mosaic of peat bogs, meadows, bog woodland, lakes and ponds. It covers and incredibly valuable natural fragment of Polesie Lubelskie. One can come across postglacial relics like Salix lapponum, Betula humilis, and extensive swamps of Ostoja Poleska are one of the biggest refuges of European Pond Turtle in Poland. Polesie National Park lies in central Poland near its eastern border. It was established in 1990 on the basis of the existing peatbogs nature reserves: Durne Bagno, Jezioro Moszne, Jezioro Dlugie, Torfowisko Orlowskie.
There are 182 species of birds, 45 species of mammals, 13 species of amphibians and 6 species of reptiles (including rare European pond terrapin) in the Poleski National Park.
