The site includes 8 shallow (0.7-6.6m), eutrophic lakes ranging from 0.7 to 256.3 ha in area, with adjacent fens and transition mires. There are also small hills used as agricultural land, a moraine rampart with the helmet of Ostrówek and the northern part of the Cretaceous-Tertiary culmination (named Guz Garbatówki). Since 2001 the area is situated in the Biosphere Reserve of Polesie Zachodnie. more »

Polesie National Park

Polesie National Park lies in central Poland near its eastern border. It was established in 1990 on the basis of the existing peatbogs nature reserves: Durne Bagno, Jezioro Moszne, Jezioro Dlugie, Torfowisko Orlowskie.

After the World War II the fashion of making wastelands productive caused priceless for nature poleskie marshes to be changed into meadows and pastures.
