Polesie National Park lies in central Poland near its eastern border. It was established in 1990 on the basis of the existing peatbogs nature reserves: Durne Bagno, Jezioro Moszne, Jezioro Dlugie, Torfowisko Orlowskie.
The Park is situated in the western part of the Polesie Region which borders the Lublin Higland to the south, Podlasie in the north and Mazowsze (Mazovia) to the west. This is an
area of contact between two large structural units of Europe: The Central European Lowland and East Baltic Lowland.
The Park area has a tundra- or forest/tundra-like habitat, which is the south-western extent of this habitat type in Europe. There are 928 species of vascular plants growing in the Park. Out of this number, 170 species are rare, while 60 are protected by law.
An interesting feature of the park is its complex of carbonate marshes: Bagno Bubnow (Bubnow Marsh), Staw and part of Torfowisko Orlowskie.
