Tree stands counting over 100 years are the most valuable element of Puszcza Borecka ecosystem, they encompass about 12% of whole surface (the oldest parts reach 150 years). Those treestands, when contain dying and dead trees which are not remove from the forest, are the only habitat for woodpeckers: three-toed and white-backed. Besides these two species, breeding of large number of middle spotted woodpeckers, collared flycatchers and lesser spotted eagles, made this area the refuge of European range. The area is located on north-eastern Poland on the border of Szeskie Hills and Elckie Lakeland, in the middle of the quadrangle created by Wegorzewo, Goldap, Olecko and Gizycko. more »
The best way to get to Puszcza Borecka is by your own means of transport or by PKS coach. There are not any bigger places so the access by train is limited. more »
