There are vast areas of coniferous and deciduous woods of few different types with great number of old trees in Puszcza Augustowska. Especially valuable part of this area is Rospuda valley, were semi-natural meadows grow still not touch by melioration so popular in the whole country. The cause of creating the Special Protection Area on these sites is mainly a group of breeding wood birds, among which black stork, honey buzzard, lesser spotted eagle, wood grouse, woodpckers: white-backed, three-toed and gray-headed and also red-breasted flycatcher are consider as the most important.
