It is a good idea to go for a biking trip around area of the refuge. Bikes can be rent in Kostrzyn, Witnica and Slonsk. A popular local biking route is "Na dwoch kolkach przez Polder Polnocny" ("On two wheels through North Polder"). There are no marked walking paths in Ujscie Warty. However there is a net of educational-natural trails, i.e.: "Ptasim szlakiem" ("On a Bird Trail") which leads through attractive hatching areas of birds, "Mokradla" ("Wetlands") and "Przyrodniczy Ogrod Zmyslow" ("Natural Garden of Senses") located by "Ujscie Warty" National Park.
There are some objects worth seeing in area of the refuge: ruins of fortress of Kostrzyn, a church in Dabroszyn, a view tower in Chyrzyno, colonies of storks in Czarnow and Kamien Maly and a few historical monuments in Slonsk: a church of Saint Mary Of Czestochowa, a gothic parish church from 1474-1508 and ruins of a castle of the Joannites.
You can visit Ujscie Warty in spring or summer (especially in May when the biggest number of birds sing). During passages of birds (March-May and August-October) on shallow floodplains and meadows you can expect many migratory water and mud birds. You must watch them from a distance, with binoculars or lunette, do not scare them off. If it is not too frosty and snowy winter, you can see here hundreds and thousands of wild geese. A good place for birdwatching on meadows and floodplains around the Warta is an old dead end concrete road from Slonsk north-west through Przyborow (within the National Park closed for traffic).
