The refuge of Sandr Brdy is one of the most precious areas of Sites of Community Importance. About 25 different types of habitats have been stated there. Central European lichen scots pine forests and Hard oligo-mesotrophic waters with characteristic flora are special natural value. The site is also signified by the richness of fauna, there are many endangered species of animals appearing. Avifauna is represented in numerous numbers. Occurrence of eagle owl, woodpeckers, marsh harrier and many more have been stated. Most of the refuge's area is occupied by coniferous woods. Fresh and mixed forest occure on sand leached soils. There are fragments of sub-Atlantic oak-hornbeam forests on the sides of river valleys and lake basins, and fragments of alluvial forests in the valley bottoms. more »
