The area of the refuge encompasses very well preserved plants' formation mentioned in Appendix I of Habitat Directive, mainly peatbogs and boggy woodlands. Hardly accessible mosses and quaking bogs are great habitat for cranes, which nest here. Plywajace Wyspy pod Rekowem is the Site of Community Importance.
