The biggest natural value of the refuge is significant diversity of habitats. There are 10 different types of habitats especially important for parts of preserving the parts of European nature. Great value is numerous population of mussel Unio crassus in the Potegowskie lakes. The area of the refuge is mainly occupied by mixed forests, the coniferous and deciduous ones overgrown much smaller surfaces. Postglacial landscape has been created after the Baltic glaciation.
