The region of Pojezierza Poludniowobałtyckie (Southern Baltic Lakes) covers the area of 77 thousand sq km, which constitutes 25 percent of Poland’s territory. The landscape of the region is dominated by hills,  cut through by valleys and numerous rivers. A number of big rivers, which flow straight to the Baltic Sea,  have their source in the region (Rega, Parseta, Wieprza, Slupia, Lupawa, Leba). Another characteristic feature of Pojezierza Poludniowobaltyckie is the multitude of postglacial lakes, the biggest among them are: Jeziorak, Goplo, Koronowskie, Wdzydze, Charzykowskie.

Greater part of this region is covered by forests. The Lakeland District has also a considerable number of protected areas, which preserve the relatively unchanged and most valuable areas.

The region of the Southern Baltic Lakeland District is divided into 12 macroregions, mostly Lakeland Districts: West Pomeranian, East Pomeranian, South Pomeranian, Ilawa, Chelminsko-Dobrzynski, Wielkopolsko-Kujawski, Lubuski and Leszczynski. Remaining regions are: the Valley of the Lower Vistula River, Pradolina Torunsko-Eberswaldzka, Pradolina Warciansko-Odrzanska and Wzniesienia Zielonogorskie.

Pojezierza Zachodniopomorskie (West Pomeranian Lakeland District) covers the area of 9,700 sq km. Characteristic features

Characteristic feature of the region is the multitude of postglacial lakes, the biggest among them are: Jeziorak, Goplo, Koronowskie, Wdzydze, Charzykowskie.
of this region are numerous lakes and diversified landscape. Oak and beech forest grow in this province.

Pojezierza Wschodniopomorskie (East Pomerania Lakeland District) covers the area of 4,3 thousands sq km. The most valuable part of this region is the Kaszubian Lakeland District, with diversified landscape and the highest elevation in the whole region – Wiezyca (328 meters asl). Lakes in this area have a characteristic long shape and are usually deep. The flora in this region has many interesting species and is very diversified thanks to the variety of natural habitats.

Pojezierza Poludniowopomorskie (South Pomerania Lakeland District) occupy the area of 17,8 thousands sq km. The landscape of this area consists of morainic plateaux and sandar plains with many lakes. Plains are covered by vast pine forests.

Dolina Dolnej Wisly (the valley of the lower Wisla (Vistula) river) covers the area of nearly one thousand sq km. This region has different landscape than the rest of the Southern Baltic Lakeland District. The axis of this province is river Wisla (Vistula) – once an important European trade route, now it is coming back to its natural state. Alluvial forests with alders as well as meadows on the slopes of the valley are especially precious habitats that can be found in this province.

Pojezierze Ilawskie (Ilawa Lakeland District) is located on the area of 4230 sq km. The dominant landscape forms in this area are moraines, sandar plains and postglacial vales. This region is located between the valley of Vistula river in the west and the valley of Drweca river in the east. The biggest forest complex of this province – Ilawskie forests – consist mostly of pines with the smaller share of beeches and alders. These forests are an Important Bird Area of International Importance.

Pojezierze Chełminsko-Dobrzynskie (Chełminsko-Dobrzynski Lakeland District) covers the area of 8,6 thousand sq km. Characteristic landscape features in this province are: terminal moraines, sandar plains, kames and eskers. Moreover you can find a rare landscape formation – drumlin field - south from the valley of Drweca river. Eastern part of this province differs in the absolute height from the neighbouring areas (the highest elevation in this area – Dylewska Mountain is 312 m asl. high).

Pradolina Torunsko-Eberswaldzka covers the area of 7,2 thousand sq km. It is a vast valley formed by meltwater from the glacier. The difference in the landscape is visible between the flat bottom of the valley covered by meadows and the terrains located higher covered by dune fields.

Pojezierze Wielkopolsko-Kujawskie (Kujawsko-Wielkopolski Lakeland District) is located on the area of 15,7 thousand sq km. Numerous lakes can be found in the northern part of the province. Forested areas are not widespread on this area.

Pojezierze Lubuskie (Lubuski Lakeland District) covers the area of 5,1 thousand sq km. This province is thickly covered by beech woods.

Pradolina Warciansko-Odrzanska is about 220 km long and covers the area of 2,1 thousand sq km. This valley drained off the meltwaters from the glacier westward. The central part of the valley connects the river-basins of Warta, Obra and Odra and is diversified by dune fields.

Pojezierze Leszczynskie (Leszczynski Lakeland District) is located on the area of 2,2 thousand sq km. Eastern part of this province consists of morainic elevations reaching 160 meters asl (Lysa Gora). Numerous lakes are surrounded by hills covered with forests.

Wzniesienia Zielonogorskie covers a small area of 1,4 thousand sq km. This region is a belt of morainic and kame hills reaching 221 meters asl. and is thickly covered by forests.
