About the region
Wschodnie Podkarpacie (Eastern Sub-Carpathia) is a region almost entirely located within the Ukrainian borders. The Polish part of the region (a part of Sansko-Dniestrzanski Plateaux macroregion) occupies the area of 100 sq km, south of Przemysl. It is a part of Wiar river basin. The province bears also an Ukrainian name - Peredkarpattia.

The only makroregion in this province that is located within Polish borders is the Sansko-Dniestrzanski Plateaux.

Plaskowyz Sansko-Dniestrzanski (Sasko-Dniestrzanski Plateau) covers the area of 100 sq km within Polish borders. It is a small fragment of the whole region, located on the lower

Wiar river and separated from the west by the Pogorze Przemyskie (Przemyskie Foothills). The soil in this province consists mostly of loess. In pleistocene, waters from the melting glacier were flowing from the west to the east through this province.

A watershed between the Baltic and the Black Sea runs through this region. The northern border of the province is formed by the tributary of the river San – Wiszenia river and the eastern by the valley of Wereszyca river – a tributary of Dniestr river. The Polish-Ukrainian border runs a couple kilometers eastward of Przemyśl, between the towns of Medyka and Szeginia.
