Zalew Wislany and Mierzeja Wislana refuge protects richness of flora and fauna species connected with water-swamp habitats and coastal dunes. 18 habitats specified in 1 Appendix of the Habitats Directive can be identified within the area of the site. The refuge lies on the way of spring and autumn passages of thousands of birds which rest here. Grey seal - rare guest at Polish coast - appears here regularly. Zalew Wislany and Mierzeja Wislana is the Site of Community Importance of 40729.6 ha. The refuge encompasses waters of a shallow lagoon (average depth is 2.3 m), the sand bar separating them from the sea as well as a narrow strap of land which encircles the lagoon from south. more »
Southern part of the refuge can be reached from Elblag, by road no. 503 towards Frombork. Mierzeja Wislana can be entered from Sztutowo, by road no. 501 towards Krynica Morska. We can also get to Frombork by train. more »
