Ships sailing from Elblag to Ostroda cross the lake and go further to slipways of the Elblag Channel, famous around the world. The journey lasts a whole day. If you want to see the reserve in the morning sunlight you should sail to Ostroda. If you move in the opposite direction you will see the beauty of the lake in the evening light.
It should be remembered that the whole area of the Druzno Lake is a nature reserve, thus moving around is possible only within a water corridor marked out for sailing.
Fishing is strictly forbidden!
When to sail and what to take?
Time spent on the Druzno Lake waters is a great experience among reed, birds and water lilies. Highly recommended!
According to Ostrodzko-Elblaska Navigation website ships cruise from the 1st of May 2006 to the 30th of September 2006. Earlier and later you have to rely on a canoe or a rowing boat. But it is no surprise that the best time to come is summer - water decorated with white and yellow lilies, great number birds, and nice chill coming from the waters of the lake on hot days.
As far as clothes are concerned, the only requirements are connected with the strong sun exposure and possibility of rain. We should remember that the heaviest rainfalls are recorded in summer months - July and August.
Since expedition to the Druzno Lake is the expedition to the kingdom of birds, binoculars are a necessary piece of equipment. A camera will also be useful to capture the landscape. In order to photograph birds you will need professional equipment which enables you to observe birds from long distance. For that you need to have lenses with a high focal length (500-1000 mm), whereas most of amateur cameras have lenses which ability reach only 300 mm. So let us leave photographing bird to professionals and take delight in listening to the sounds of wild nature. To all interested in bird photos I recommend the pictures taken by Marcin Karetta.
