Area description
The area of Jeziora Weltynskie is under protection of European Natwork Natura 2000 because of species of birds appearing in the site. The refuge is located in West-Pomeranian voivodeship, on the area of 16 square km, it encompasses gryfino and Stare Czarnowo communes.

The refuge is a group of lakes laid within fields and Jezioro Weltynskie is the biggest one (360 ha). There are characteristic islands appearing on the lakes. They are overgrown by reed rushes and forests. The vegetable habitats are mostly arable fields, meadows and pastures.

Species of birds from Appendix I Birds Directive:

  • Great bittern,
  • Little bittern,
  • White and black stork,
  • Whooper and Bewick's swans,
  • Red kite,
  • White-tailed eagle,
  • Marsh and Montagu's harriers,
  • Spotted, corn and little crake,
  • Common crane,
  • Common and black tern,
  • Black and Middle spotted woodpecker,
  • Woodlark,
  • Barred warbler,
  • Red-backed shrike,
  • Bluethroat,
  • Lesser Spotted Eagle.

The migratory species of birds appearing in the refuge wich are not recorded in Appendix I Birds Directive:

  • Greylag Goose.
