Delta Swiny is a dynamic, constantly developing system of land and water geomorphologic forms, connected with an estuary of large, lowland Odra river to the Baltic. Communities of halophilic vegetation have been preserved here. Particular value of the refuge is connected with occurrence of a small, inconspicuous passerine bird - the aquatic warbler. The whole world population of this species probably reaches not more than 20 000 males. The second biggest population of the species is located in Poland . Main places of its occurrence are: Dolina Biebrzy i Narwia (the Biebrza and the Narwia Valley), Lubelszczyzna (the Land of Lublin) and Pomorze Zachodnie (the Western Pomerania) with Delta Swiny. Delta Swiny is the refuge situated within the area of Wolin National Park, near Swinoujscie. Swinoujscie is a holiday resort. It is the only town in Poland which lies on 44 sea islands. The refuge encompasses natural and artificial branches of the Swina as well as islands between them, south-west coast of the Wolin island and south-east parts of the Uznam island. more »
