Area description
Bagna Rozwarowskie is one of refuges established in order to protect aquatic warbler - bird species in danger of extinction worldwide. Only quick protective steps shall help to preserve a very small population of the species, which in the West Pomerania region occur on the edge of its range.

Location
The refuge is located in West-Pomeranian voivodship, in the county of Kamien. It is a western part of mesoregion Rownina Gryficka (the Gryficka Plain).

General description of the refuge
The refuge encompasses a fragment of marshy valley of the Grzybinca river estuary to Zatoka Cicha (the Silent Bay) which is a part of Zalew Kamienski (the Kamien Lagoon). The landscape is dominated by a river valley of little diverse land formation, cut by numerous drainage ditches. Within the refuge there also lies the Piaski lake. Central part of Bagna Rozwarowskie is occupied by vast reed fields, for several years economically exploited (for reed logging), and swampy meadows and pastures as well as alder brushwood and partly flooded peat excavation pits. The area is often flooded. Edges of the refuge are occupied by farmlands and less swampy meadows and pastures. Village of Rozwarowo is also located within the borders of the refuge. In the south-east part of the refuge there are remains of forests belonging to Puszcza Goleniowska (the Goleniow Primeval Forest).

Birds
Occurrence of at least 29 bird species specified in Appendix 1 of the Bird Directive have been recorded on the area of Bagna Rozwarowskie refuge. The area has been included into Natura 2000 Network as an important refuge of the aquatic warbler. This small, inconspicuous bird is a species in danger of extinction worldwide. Bagna Rozwarowskie is one of its most important hatching places in Western-Pomerania region. Although the population of this species has shrunk in recent years, implementing adequate protective regulations aimed at sustaining habitat conditions optimal for aquatic warbler may help increase the number of these bird.

Apart from aquatic warbler the following bird species have been recorded on Bagna Rozwarowskie: bittern, white stork, black stork, European honey-buzzard, black kite, red kite, marsh harrier, hen harrier, Montagu's harrier, lesser spotted eagle, spotted crake, little crake and crane. Here hatch also: black tern, short-eared owl, common kingfisher, great spotted woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker, wood lark, red-backed shrike, barred warbler and bluethroat.

Moreover, golden plover, dunlin, ruff and wood sandpiper appear in the area during passages.

Threats
The biggest threat comes from the intensification of reed logging, which leads to degradation of aquatic warbler's habitat. Impoverishing of the habitat leads to retreat of rare and endangered species of birds, which are replaced by common bird species. Apart from reed logging other threat comes from changes within habitat caused by abandonment of pasturing. Pollution of water and soil with sewage from farms has also been observed, as well as recently common cases of burning off reed fields, meadows and pastures. The habitat also changes in result of transformation of water conditions. Drainage works lead to overdrying of the area.

Significant direct threat for birds is penetration of habitats and pouching.
