Some advice
How to get to the Izbickie Marshes?
Bagna Izbickie - site map
Visiting or exploring the marshes is basically impossible without special equipment and clothes. Which leaves us with a road or a didactic path to get to know the area. Personally, I wouldn't recommend venturing into the meadows, rushes or bulrushes. Entering the marshes could mean struggling with mud and sharp parts of plants (bulrush). One should also be prepared for little valleys filled with water and covered with peatmoss into which one could fall and even drown.

So how to get to the Izbickie Marshes? An image of the peatland can be grasped by walking along the Żarnowska didactic path. The path may be walked after arrangement made with guides of the Słowiński National Park.

What to wear? What to take?

Area of the Izbickie Marshes is worth visiting from spring to autumn. On an expedition we should take trekking boots, clothes suitable for temperature and ready to get dirty. We shoul be prepared to walk through mud, water or high, often wet grass. Almost always we will be attacked by clouds of mosquitos and other insects, including ticks.

A camera is always one of the necessary elements of equipment. Landscapes and plants which we are going to see during our walk down the path are extraordinary. It also advisable to remember about a reserve of drinks, preferably water. A bottle of water can clunch your thirst and in a critical situation may be used for cleaning cuts. An excursion along the Żarnowska didactic path may last many hours. It's recommended to take sandwiches or something else to eat.

To sum up, the Izbickie Marshes are not friendly for tourists but then no marshes in the world are. But if somebody is keen to learn about specifity of the area I would strongly recommend the mentioned path. If we are strong enough to walk it all the way we can expectd experiences to remember for a long time and term "marshes" will take a real shape.
