The area of the refuge is protected because of alluvial forests and river willow thickets which are the priority nature habitat for protection of biodiversity in Europe.

Tree stands are mainly black alder, European white elm and ash.

You can find also three rare species of animals: European beaver, European fire-bellied toad and great crested newt.

The refuge is located on the area of Legi Czarnej Strugi nature reserve.
