Area description
Dabrowa Grotnicka is located in wood complex called Grotnicki Forest. It is a Site of Community Importance with an area of 108.5 ha, on the area of lodzkie voivodeship. The area of the refuge is mainly overgrown by deciduous forests which represent two habitats important for European nature: Euro-Siberian steppic woods and oak-hornbeam forests.

Habitats from Appendix I Habitat Directive:

  • Euro-Siberian steppic woods with Quercus spp.
  • Galio-Carpinetum oak-hornbeam forests.

There are 80 to 120-year-old oaks and pines dominate in tree stands of Dabrowa Grotnicka. There are also some rare species of vegetation in undergrowth, and 5 of them are protected, among others: Lilyleaf Ladybells (Adenophora liliifolia). Its population counts about 10-25 individuals here. It is the biggest Euro-Siberian steppic woods in lodzkie voivodeship.

Existing forms of nature protection:

  • Dabrowa Grotnicka nature reserve,
  • Sokolnicki area of protected landscape.
