The Kampinos National Park is located north-west from Warsaw within the borders of Kampinos forest. It has been created in 1959 on the area of 38 544 ha.
70% of the area is covered by the forest. There are 22 areas of strict protection with the total area of 4 638 ha inside the Park. There is over 1245 species of vascular plants in the Park. 69 from them are protected from among them Purple Viper’s Grass (Scorzonera purpurea).
The fauna of the Park is very diversified, over 16 000 animal species inhabit this terrain. The most numerous groups are the insects
(about 2000 species) and birds (200 species). There are 83 species of animals enlisted in the Polish Red Book of Animals and 280 protected species to be found in the Kampinos National Park.
In order to protect the nature in the Kampinoski Primeval Forest elk, beaver and lynx have been reintroduced to their habitats. Protective actions undertaken in the Park also include the maintenance of a right water level.
