Location
Baranie Gory refuge is located in norther-west part of voivodeship, about 20 km to the west from Mlawa, in Lipowiec Koscielny commune, mlawski county. It is situated within the reserve with the same name and encompasses surface of 176.6 ha.
Geologic History and Landscape
Baranie Gory is situated in Polish Low borders. It is the area shaped by successive glaciations, which had formed postglacial relief - moraine hills. Glacial structures (moraine clays) and water glacial forms (sands, gravels) dominate here.
Ecosystem
There are four types of steppe woods diverted on Baranie Gory refuge: form remaining the common one, other with single stands of beech, with numerous beech occurrence and type with spruce.
Among habitats important from the European point of view there are distinguished:
Flora and Fauna
Flora of the area encompasses 286 species of vascular plants with rare and protected ones in Poland. There are also some monumental trees. The world of invertebrates is represented by butterfly - Large Copper (Lycaena dispar) - valuable for Europe.
Threats
Agricultural areas neighbouring with the reserve may have negative influence on the ecosystem of the reserve.
Nature Protection
Baranie Gory reserve was established in 1994 to protect natural values of the area. It encompasses surface of 176.62 ha and it is whole covered with the area of Natura 2000.
