Niziny Sasko-Luzyckie (Sasko-Luzyckie Lowlands) are a relatively large, natural region located on the Polish and German border. The Polish part of the region covers the area of 3,800 sq km. The province is covered by vast pine forests cut through by rivers: Nysa Luzycka, Bobr and Kwisa.
Rich copper deposits and industry centers: Legnica and Lubin are located in the eastern part of the province. The province of Sasko-Luzyckie Lowlands can be divided into 7 regions: Kotlina Zasieka, Wal Muzakowski, Bory Dolnoslaskie, Rownina Szprotawska, Wysoczyzna Lubinska, Rownina Legnicka i Rownina Chojnowska.
Kotlina Zasiecka (Zasiecka Valley) covers the area of 200 sq km within Polish borders. This region is cut through by the Nysa Luzycka river and a Polish-German border that runs along its bed. Characteristic features of this province are numerous swamps and connected streams. There is one nature reserve – peat bog "Mlodno" – located in this area.
Wal Muzakowski is an arc of terminal moraine cut through by the valley of Nysa Luzycka river. This province occupies the area of 100 sq km within Polish borders.
Bory Dolnoslaskie (Dolnoslaskie Forests) cover the area of 1650 sq km. This province is located in the river basin of Nysa Luzycka, Bobr and Kwisa. The vast forests of this region consist mostly of pines and a small addition of deciduous trees, firs and spruces. You can also find here heathers, brooms and junipers in undergrowth. There are 4 nature reserves located in this area, including "Zurawie Bagno" nature reserve, a nesting place of crane.
Rownina Szprotawska (Szprotawska Plain) is a wide depression covering the area of 530 sq km. This plain is covered mostly by fields, meadows and pastures. There are 2 nature reserves located in this province, among them „Stawy Przmkowskie” nature reserve – a habitat of numerous bird species.
Wysoczyzna Lubinska (Lubinska Plateau) is located on the area of 590 sq km. "Zimna Woda (Cold water)" nature reserve can be found in this province. There are cupriferous slates in the tertiary and quaternary layers of earth, which contributed to creating of 4 mines and 2 foundries in this province. The industrial development of the region resulted in great negative changes in the environment and population health.
Rownina Legnicka (Legnicka Plain) consists of vast and broad valleys of river Kaczawa and its tributaries: Czarna Woda, Skora and Nysa Szalona which cover the area of 340 sq km. This terrain is covered mostly by fields and water-meadows.
Rownina Chojnowska (Chojnowska Plain) is a morainic plain covering the area of 690 sq km. This area is covered mostly by wheat, beet and potato fields. A reservoir basin that covers 5 sq km is located on the Nysa Szalona river.
