Location
The site comprises a fragment of the westernmost foothills of the Eastern Carpathians - Przemysl and Dynoswkie plateaus. It borders with the valley of San river and the Ukrainian border.
Ecosystem
Over 60% of the site's area is covered by forests, interlaced with pastures, meadows and arable land, as if in a natural mosaic. All human settlements are located in the valleys. The hydrographic network is well developed. Hilly area covered by broadleaved forests with dominating forests of beech Fagus in the highest parts, in lower areas dry-ground broadleaved forests dominate. In river valleys grow riverside carrs and alder Alnus scrub of the Carpathian type. Open areas are arable fields, meadows and dry barren land, covered by xerotermic plant communities.
In the forests near Bircza one can come across a natural site of Betula obscura endemic tree species of birch tree. On the well-lit slopes there are semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates - important orchid sites. Within the wide river valleys of San and Wiar there exist meadows and peatbog areas.
Such a diversified landscape gives a great conditions for numerous animal species to live and breed here. In the region of Pogorze Przemyskie wolves, European lynx and grizzly bears have found their refuge.
However the biggest value of the site are birds. As many as 29 bird speices listed on Annex I of the Bird Directive have been identified here. Large populations of five bird species, i.e. Lesser Spotted Eagle, Corn Crake, Frey-headed Woodpecker, Ural Owl and Collared Flycatcher, make Pogorze Przemyskie a special protection area within Natura 2000 Network.
Moreover, valley of San river is an important migration route for numerous bird species.

Threats
Main threat for birds of Pogorze Przemyskie are changes in the agricultural landscape of the are - cutting down field tree stands, paths between the fields. Moreover, burning down stubbles, and fertilizers have negative impact on natural environment.
Another factors which have negative influence on habitats important for birds include: afforestation of meadows and pastures, felling the old trees, draining marshes.
