How to get to the Tatra Mountains?

Planning a trip to the Tatra Mountains you should go to Zakopane, which lies in a heart of the mountains. Here and in the nearby villages most of the walking paths begin.

By car
Zakopane is connected with the rest of Poland and the world by comfortable communication routes.

From Krakow (110 km, to Myslenice a four-lane road, then narrower) through Myslenice, Chabowka and Nowy Targ.
From Silesia through Oswiecim, Wadowice, Sucha Beskidzka, Jordanow and Chabowka. An interesting variation is a road from Makow Podhalanski through Zawoja, Zubrzyca (regional building open-air museum), Jablonka, Czarny Dunajec and Chocholow to Zakopane.
From the east there is a road through beautiful landscapes from Nowy Targ and Kroscienko to Zakopane.

By train
The most common train connection is from Krakow through Sucha Beskidzka and Chabowka (150 km). Fast and express trains reach Zakopane in 3-4 hours, super-fast trains ("Kasprowy" and "Giewont") in 2.5 hours. The same time (2.5 hours) takes a journey from Krakow to Zakopane by bus (there are many PKS and private lines connections, also by minivans).

Pieniny National Park

Pieniny National Park is one of most picturesque national parks in Poland. The Park's area is 2,346 ha. Forests cover 1,665 ha - 750 ha are placed under a strict protection.

Tatra National Park contains about 650 caves. Wielka Sniezna - Wielka Litworowa cave is the longest, with 18,000 m of tunnels and the deepest (814 m in depth). Only 6 caves are accessible for visitors.
