The Czarna Orawa river flows through the Orawa-Podhale Valley. The area of 37.1 ha, stretching along the river from Podwilk to the estuary of Lipnica river constitutes a site of community importance within Natura 2000 Network. It was established to protect rare species of fish: freshwater sculpin, Kessler's gudgeon, spined loach, brook lamprey and Ukrainian lamprey. Czarna Orawa river is a tributary of the Orawa Lake - an artificial reservoir located in Slovakia - and the river Wag.
