Forms of environmental protection in Poland
There are five main forms of nature conservation in Poland: national park, landscape park, nature reserve, protected landscape area, and individual protection.

National Park - according to Art. 14 of the Nature Conservation Law of 1991 a national park includes a protected area distinguishable through particular natural, social, and educational values, covering an area of at least 1,000 ha, in which the entire nature and all landscape features are be protected.

Nature Reserve – an area, which encloses a natural ecosystem preserved in their original form; particular species are protected

within the reserve. The reserve is taken care of on the basis of a specific conservation plan.

Landscape Park – an area protected due to its particular natural, historical and cultural values; agriculturally exploited areas may be located within the park’s borders.

Protected Landscape Area – an area with a characteristic landscape including different ecosystems, it can be farmed only if the natural ecological balance is sustained.

Individual protection of:

  • monuments of nature (trees, rocks, boulders),
  • stands for completing documentation (places important from the scientific point of view),
  • nature-landscape complexes (fragments of natural and cultural landscape protected for aesthetic purposes),
  • ecological lands (fragments of ecosystems – ponds, clusters of trees, peat bogs, dunes, floodplains).
