The Gardno Lake is the second lake regarding to size in Slowinski National Park, and also the second lake in relation to occupying area among Polish seaside lakes. The present length of reservoir's costal line comes to 23.3 km. Peculiar element of the lake is Kamienna Wyspa (Island of Stones) located in its middle part. It is covered by the strict protection - breeding ground of the rare birds. The lake is also excellent place to improve the sailing skills.
Even if one think there is nothing but sand, some of us know that this is enough to protect it. Slowinski National Park is one of 23 national parks in Poland and one of two seaside parks. It was formed to protect sea lakes, bogs, pits, meadows, woods and especially dune strip of spit with the unique in Europe movable dunes. The Park is placed in international networks of protected areas like: HELCOMBSPA, World Nature Reserve or water-boggy Ramsar site. Slowinski National Park was photographed by Robert Pietraga.
Slowinski National Park lies in the central part of the Polish coast, between Leba and Rowy (Pomorskie Voivodeship). It is known for its migrating dunes. The largest dune area is about 500 ha big. The dunes reach the height of over 30 m a.s.l. and, blown by the wind, move with a speed of 3-10 m per year.

The flora of Slowinski National Park is composed of about 850 species, 50 of them are legally protected. The most representative feature of the Park's vegetation is its zonal structure. The zones create a natural succession series, going from the coastline towards the mainland. The system also includes pioneer, and initial sand communities, as well as coastal coniferous forests with crowberry.
