This family of birds encompasses land, arboreal species living on the northern hemisphere. They are characterised by small sizes, little beak, short wings and rather long tale. Most of them have contrastic, mostly black and white, head colour.

Both species are incuded into order of Coraciiformes. This group of birds is characterized e.g. for its colourful plumage, and also not significant sexual dimorphism. That is why females are as colourful as males. Eggs are usually white, and nestlings - blind and most often naked. Birds from order of Coraciiformes are model parents; they look after their offspring together. Woodpeckers are found worldwide and include about 180 species. Woodpeckers gained their English name because of the habit of some species of tapping and pecking noisily on tree trunks with their beaks. This is both a means of communication to signal possession of territory to their rivals, and a method of locating and accessing insect larvae found under the bark or in long winding tunnels in the tree.

Songbirds or oscines are birds belonging to the suborder Passeri of Passeriformes (ca. 4000 species), in which the vocal organ is developed in such a way as to produce various sound notes, commonly known as bird song.

It used to be thought that little owl (Athene noctua) is a herald of death, and barn owl (Tyto alba) brings fire. Those wonderful birds are predators, however you can only watch photos of Cezary Korkosz, to become convinced that they can be interesting and even amusing, but not scary.
